JO "GRANNY JO" SMITH

Cuero, Jo “Granny Jo” Smith, 77, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 22, 2008. She was born in Belpre, Ohio on October 7, 1930 to Charlee E. and Sybil Mae Groves Brown. Jo married James “ Smitty “ Smith on November 14, 1953 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Jo attended St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. She was a member of the American Legion Dinter Post #3 and VFW Auxiliary. Jo was a dedicated member and secretary of Rawhide Riders Inc. for the past 37 years. She was an honorary member of Old Chisholm Trail Drivers, serving as their secretary for 10 years. Jo worked for Humble Oil, Cuero City Hall, Paul Lucas, Sr, Cuero Livestock Commission, and Freund Funeral Home.

Jo is survived by her daughter, Kathy Rangnow and husband Henry of Meyersville; three grandsons, Buck (Toi), Chad (Scarlett), Charlie (Lori); and five great grandchildren, Ragen, Kristi, Logan, Jaymee, and Cody Rangnow. She was also survived by two sisters; Betty Haller and husband Tommy of Zanesville, Ohio, and Kathryn Barrett also of Zanesville, Ohio. Jo was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 30 years, and brother, Everett Eugene Brown.

Jo will live on in our hearts and be remembered for all of the joy and love she shared with all around her. For her family and friends, it will be an honor to share the many heart-warming memories with future generations of our beloved Granny Jo

Viewing begins at noon on Monday, May 26, 2008 with family visitation from 6-8 pm at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 2 pm at Freund Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Byrne officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery

Pallbearers: Buck, Chad, and Charlie Rangnow, J.G. Hunnam, Ron Peterson, and Rip Gibson.

Honorary Pallbearers: Great Grandchildren, Members of Rawhide Riders, and Old Chisholm Trail Drivers Association.

Memorial: Rawhide Riders, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and American Heart Association.
