Alvin Edwin Boenig, 81, of Stratton passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010. He was born January 26, 1929 in Geronimo to the late Edgar and Hertha Altenhof Boenig. He married Jeanette Irene Frank on February 9, 1951 in Yoakum. Alvin was a veteran serving in the United States Navy. After returning from the Navy, began his career with Southwestern Bell as a lineman and retiring as a supervisor wire chief in Austin after 35 years. He participated in Pioneers with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church where he served as councilman, taught Sunday school, Assistant Scout Master, and Luther League Leader.
He is survived by daughters, Pamela Ann Hartman and husband, Don, of Geronimo and Toni Sue Hackney and husband, David, of Birmingham, Alabama; son, Alfred Adam Boenig of Melbourne, Florida; sisters, Viola Karstetter of New Braunfels and Myrtle Huebinger of Seguin; grandchildren, April Christine Boenig of Keystone, South Dakota, George Adam Hartman of Westhoff, Adam Christopher Boenig of Melbourne, Florida, John Adam Hartman of Fort Worth, Amy Catherine Boenig of Rainsville, NewMexico, and Andrew Cleveland Hackney of Auburn, Alabama, and special friends, Frank and Janie Barron, Jacinto and Mary Banegas, Delores Rosales, Melanie Villareal, Jamie Cardenas, and Alexander Ramirez.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife; and brother, Alfred Boenig.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 10, 2010 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held on Monday, October 11, 2010, 10:30 a.m., at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Cuero with Pastor Karl Biermann. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be April Boenig, Adam Boenig, Catie Boenig, George Adam Hartman, Patrick Frank, Andrew Cleveland Hackney, and Keith Huebinger.
Honorary pallbearers will be L.C. Boothe, Dr. Raymond Reese, E.F. Schorre, Roger Frank, Greg Frank, and his family from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Cuero.
