Alvin Floyd Doehrman, 87, of Meyersville passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born in Meyersville March 12, 1925 to Alvin and Nora Hans Doehrman.
He served in the US Army in World War II from 1944 to 1946 in the South Pacific, the only time he left his home. He returned to Meyersville and married Doris Raabe on January 6, 1948. They started and operated the Doehrman Turkey Ranch for 37 years, the last turkey farm of DeWitt County. Floyd was recently recognized by the community as he led his family and a flock of turkeys at the beginning of the 2012 Cuero Turkeyfest Parade.
After turkey ranching, Floyd changed from feathers to hooves managing his small ranch. He served as past president of the Meyersville Independent School District Board of Directors, past President of DeWitt County Rural Electric Association, a member of the Cuero Chamber of Commerce, past president of the DeWitt County Livestock Show Board of Directors, past president of the Cuero Rodeo Association and served on the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Parish Council and as a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #13010.
His father and mother and his sister, Elfie Adickes preceded him in death. He is survived by Doris, his wife of 65 years, a sister Verena Albrecht, brother-in-law Monroe Rieger and wife Mary Margaret, and six children: Janice Ohrt, Mark Doehrman and wife Sue, Sylvia Jacob and husband Kenneth, Chris Doehrman and wife Nancy, Rhonda Goebel and husband Richard, and Phyllis Foulds, eighteen grandchildren and seventeen great grand children.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm at Freund Funeral Home with a Rosary led by family at 7:00pm. The funeral mass will be held Sunday, January 27,2013 at 3:30 pm at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 11220 FM 237, Meyersville with Father David Berger officiating.
Pallbearers include grandsons: Garrett and Clay Ohrt, Slade Doehrman, Kurt Lassmann, Joshua and Cullen Doehrman, and Russell and Ross Goebel.
Honorary Pallbearers include Bobby Zengerle, David Noack, Ralph Egg, Ruben Gohmert, Ralph Lau, Donald Ohrt, and Buzz Jacoby.
