Alvin Rudolph Sager passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 at the age of 95. He was born in Cuero, Texas on Jan. 16, 1914 to the late Richard and Erna (Schorlemmer) Sager. He operated a commercial trucking company and ranched in DeWitt County. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He married Mary Helen Kozok in 1947. He was a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Arneckeville. He was an active member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Helen; brother Theo Sager; and sisters Helen Planas and Ella Bade.
Survivors: daughter Gladys (John) Thompson of Cuero; son, Alton (Suzanne) Sager of Eagle Pass; grandchildren Heather Thompson of Sulphur Springs, Robert Sager of Dell City, and Roman Sager of Alpine; sister Lillian Kelly of Llano; brother Herbert Sager of Everett, Washington; special friend Hazel Reeves of Cuero; cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 24th from 5:30p.m. to 7:30p.m. at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero. Services will be held Wednesday, November 25 at 10:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church of Arneckeville with interment following at the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be members of the Cuero American Legion Post and the Cuero Veterans of Foreign Wars post. Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church of Arneckeville elevator fund or donor's choice.
