Mrs. Arlene Ruth Corner, 101, of Cuero passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017. She was born March 1, 1916 in DeWitt County to the late Gertrude P. Schendel and Will G. Schorre . Arlene married the love of her life, John H. Corner, on February 29, 1941 in Luling. She had a rewarding career as a teacher for 30 years at Ratcliff School, Arneckeville School and the Alamo Heights school district in San Antonio.


Arlene is survived by her loving daughter, Michelle Schlinke (Charlie); granddaughters, Dawn Ontiveros (Joe) and Julie Schlinke (Jeff); grandson, Michael Schlinke (Daffine) great-grandchildren, Hannah, Sophia, Skylar, Madyson , Hunter, Trayland, and Aubree.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Corner; daughter, Julia Corner; and her 5 brothers, Albert, Fermor, Hilton, William, and Elwyn.

Services will be held Monday, September 18, 2017 at 5 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Muehlbrad. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Jeff Schorre, Joe Schorre, Hilton Schorre Jr., Jeff Martinez, Michael Schlinke, Hunter Schlinke, and Charlie Schlinke. Honorary pallbearers are Jane Schorre and the staff of Whispering Oaks Manor.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or the Cuero Hospital Auxiliary.
