Arthur A. Veit Sr. died at his home in Smiley on Friday, Feb. 26, 2010 at the age of 91 years, one month and seven days.
He was born in Westhoff, owned and operated the Veit Feed Store for many years, and then operated a commercial chicken farm and farmed and ranched for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife Irene of 50 years; five children, Melanie Driffill (Fred) of Floresville, Arthur Veit Jr. of Westhoff, Vonnie Jackson (Jeff) of Bandera, Mark Veit (Sammie) of Cuero, and Matt Veit of Clio, Mich.; five grandchildren, Chelsea and Garrett Veit, Katy and Jill Veit, and Lukas Jackson; three step-grandchildren, Greg Driffill (Amanda) and family of Stockdale, Steven Driffill (Jeanette) and family of San Antonio, and Emily Jackson of Purcellville, Va.
He is also survived by two nieces, Ruby Faye Krause Bednik of Yorktown and Beverly Culbertson of Lexington, Ky.; two nephews, Gerald (Buddy) Deats of Dallas and James Deats of Fort Worth; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johanna Peiper and Albert Veit; brother, Adolf Veit; and sister, Emilia Veit Krause.
A visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 1, at the Freund Funeral Home Chapel in Cuero. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Freund Funeral Home with Pastor Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Westhoff Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Fred Driffill, Jeff Jackson, David Baros, Denis Mueller, Raymond Malatek, Jeff Constable, Harold Miller, and Warren Siedel.
Honorary pallbearers are Angie Hillbrich, Dr. David Hill, Dr. Harold High, Don Pansegrau, John Barron Jr., and Serverio Sandoval.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church in Westhoff, and Accolade Hospice (Yoakum).
