Avis May Lawrence Cole, 102, of Cuero passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017. She was born April 2, 1915 in Dennison to the late Roy A. Lawrence and Mary Ila Faulkner. Avis married Tom D. Cole on November 28, 1943 in Donna. Avis graduated from Scott and White in Temple as a registered nurse and served as school nurse for Pharr ISD, San Juan ISD, and Alamo ISD. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Alamo and enjoyed fellowship at First Baptist Church of Cuero.
She is survived by daughters, Joann Cole Havemann and husband, Lanny, of Cuero and Janet Cole Rhodes and husband, Wayne, of Floresville; sisters, Ila Marie Brintle, Dorothy Foster, and Arah Ann Tarver; grandchildren, Michael Ely and wife, Heidi, of Forney, Vance Ely of Austin, Jeffrey Tolliver of Floresville, Stephen Tolliver and wife, Dawna, of Houston, and Andy Kim of Austin; and great-grandsons, Jack Tolliver and Grant Tolliver, both of Houston.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Una Brotherton; and brothers, Roy Lawrence, Sidney A. Brintle, and Woodson Brintle.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 15, 2017 at Freund Funeral Home. Services will follow at 11 a.m. with Dr. Glenn Robertson officiating. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Cuero.
Pallbearers include Wayne Rhodes, Lanny Havemann, Michael Ely, Vance Ely, Jeffrey Tolliver, and Stephen Tolliver.
