VICTORIA - Bessie Adelaide Roy of Victoria, formally of Cuero passed away on March 3, 2009 at the age of 97. She was the second child born to the late Ross E. Jones and Mary Ella Wimbish, in Cuero, Texas on February 25, 1912. Family and friends lovingly called her Sister or Adelaide. She valued life, was a loving mother who always put family first and a Baptist who grew to know Christ at an early age. She had a unique sense of humor, and infectious laugh, was extremely wise and loved sharing life lessons with anyone who would listen, especially the younger generation.
She was a retired domestic servant and cooked for the Leslie McBride family, and was best known for her tasty Apple Pies and German Chocolate Cakes. She provided Child care services to the Jack Wallis family who trusted her to take care of their children while they vacationed in Colorado. She faithfully worked and retired from Calvary Baptist Church Nursery after twenty loyal years of service. She was an Eastern Star member, Kitchen Pride Chapter in Cuero during her active years.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lawrence A. Jones; and daughter, Mary Louise Crittenden.
She leaves to mourn her passing five children; daughters, Pennetta Roy, Victoria, Texas, Florence Fryer (Herman), Cuero, Texas, and Osia Jones, Aurora, Colorado; sons, William Roy, Denver, Colorado, and Lawrence G. Roy, Aurora, Colorado; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, three stepsons, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.. Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 11, 200, at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. The Pastor Dane Amey will be officiating. Interment will follow in Lockhart Cemetery under the direction of Freund Funeral Home, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers are Melvin Roy, Clayton Roy, Terrance Fryer, J.C. Mathis, Ralph Wimbish, and Adam Denson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Rick Van Wormer, Sam Simpson, Roderick Fryer, James H. Roy, Kevin Gaskins, and Will H. Fryer.
