Victoria, formerly of Cuero, Billye M. Newman, 79, passed away November 7, 2008. She was born July 6, 1929 in Cuero to the late Willie M. and Mabel Lee Menn. She married David C. "Chubby" Newman in San Antonio, Tx. on June 29, 1946. She was a homemaker who loved reading, especially romance novels, and being surrounded by her large family.

Billye is survived by her daughters, Martha Harwood (Tom) of San Antonio and Marva Meitzen (Ike) of Victoria; son, Joe T. Newman of Victoria; grandchildren, Will and Lisa Harwood, Matt and Michelle Harwood, Heather and Ryan Gold, Jennifer and Keith Yancey, Lisa and Joey Baker, Jay Meitzen, Trey Newman, Kelly and Daryl Stimson, Tammie and Jim Nichols, and David and Candice Newman, and great-grandchildren, Zack and Amberlyn Harwood, Katelyn and Harrison Yancey, Joey "Duce" and Jacob Baker, Kyndal Stimson, Jessica Kaspar, Jacob and Emma Nichols, and Michael and Kelsey Newman. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years; son, David C. Newman, Jr.; sister, Dina Kyle; and great-granddaughter, Meagen Marie Newman.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 9, 2008, 6 to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be held Monday, November 10, 2008, 10 a.m., at Freund Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Laird Engle officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero.
