Bobby Joe Davis, 84, of Thomaston passed away Friday, December 14, 2018.  He was born October 16, 1934 in Navasota to the late Sanford H. Sr. and Mary Pauline Lowery Davis.  He married Barrie Sue Colson on August 18, 1956 in Bryan.  Bobby Joe held a BA at the Free Will Baptist Bible College and an MA at Sam Houston State. His greatest calling was preaching, which he did for 69 years, until last month. He served in the Army and helped others as a counselor at Texas Rehabilitation Commission and in schools. Bobby Joe also enjoyed raising cattle, hogs, and honeybees. He served his community as a volunteer at Cuero Lions Club and Thomaston Volunteer Fire Dept.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barrie Sue Davis; sons, John D. "JD" Davis (Gay Lynn) of Thomaston, Peter D. "Pete" Davis (Debbie) of Cuero, and James S. "Sam" Davis (Stephanie), Sr. of Round Rock; daughter, Joanna Davis Schorre (Daniel) of Carlos; brothers, Sanford H. Davis (Merle) of Shreveport and Danny R. Davis (Nancy) of College Station; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joel A. "Andy" Davis; daughter, Suzanna Davis; grandson, James S. "Steve" Davis; and brother Jimmy Rogers.

Visitation will be Monday, December 17, 2018 from 5 - 6:30 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home followed by a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Kyle Howell officiating.  Funeral Services will be Wednesday, December 19, 2018, 11 a.m. at Carlos Missionary Baptist Church in Carlos with Pastor Doug Dickey officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Carlos.

Pallbearers will be James S. Davis, Jr., Seth Davis, Rick Davis, Braydon Murphree, August Stroh, Gavin Schorre, Kyle Howell, and Matthew Cheesman.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Scott Frahm, Gaylon Vaughn, Gerald Vaughn, Glenn Vaughn, Hugh Murphree, and Daniel Schorre.
