Carlos Dean Gottschalt, 79, of Cuero went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 21, 2024.
Carlos was born to Max and Lorine Thormalen Gottschalt on September 16, 1944 in Cuero and has been in Cuero all of his life. He attended school in Cuero and after graduating high school, he attended Delmar College in Corpus Christi. He joined the National Guard on December 8, 1963 and was then honorably discharged on December 7, 1969. During his time in the National Guard, he married the love of his life, Nancy Arndt on June 11, 1967 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lindenau. Carlos and Nancy just celebrated their 57th anniversary together.
After leaving the National Guard, Carlos became employed in the family business, Gottschalt House Movers and worked there until the business sold. He then became self employed as a general contractor of Gottschalt Builders where he worked until the end of 2023.
Carlos and Nancy enjoyed camping with family and friends each summer. They played dominoes from sun up to sun down. They also loved dancing in Sweet Home each Sunday. He knew no stranger and made many friends along the way. He enjoyed meeting his coffee buddies each morning before he started his day. His hobbies included fishing, hunting with his grandchildren, planting a garden and going on a cruise with his wife.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy of 57 years; son, Mark (Valerie) Gottschalt of Plano; daughter, Christina (Freddie) Cade of Victoria; sister, Oretha Faltesek of Cuero; grandchildren, Shelbey (Seth) Poncik, Cayden Gottschalt, Landon Gottschalt, Austin (Julia) Cade and Carson Gottschalt. He also had five great-grandchildren, Skyler Poncik, Skarlett Poncik, Steele Poncik, Sutton Cade and Shiloh Cade.
He was preceded in death by his father, Max; mother, Lorine and brother, Norris.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 24, 2024, 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, June 25, 2024, 10:00 AM at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Muehlbrad officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his honor can be made to Hospice of South Texas.
Pallbearers include Kenneth Buenger, Keith Schott, Richard Innocenti, Freddie Cade, Brett Ckodre and Austin Cade.
Honorary pallbearers are his Bahnhof Coffee Group.
