IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carrie Mae
Buchhorn
October 4, 1927 – October 6, 2024
Carrie Mae Nolte Buchhorn passed peacefully surrounded by her family on October 6, 2024 at the age of 97. She was born in Westhoff on October 4, 1927 to Henry J. and Carrie Jurach Nolte. She quit school in the seventh grade to help her dad farm while her brothers served during WWII. In 1947 she married the love of her life, Weldon E. Buchhorn Sr. She then became a devoted wife and mother. Above all, she was devoted to the Lord and faithfully with Weldon raised their children in the Catholic faith; first at St. Aloysius in Westhoff, then at St. Michael's in Cuero. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Daughters, Lindenau Rifle Club, American Legion Dinter Post Auxiliary and the Cuero VFW Auxiliary.
She passed on her faith and life skills of cooking, baking and sewing to all of her children. Carrie also was a leader in the Lindenau 4-H club for sewing. Besides all her hard work of gardening, cattle raising and farming, she and Weldon loved to dance. It was so special to see them glide across the floor to Spanish Eyes. We know they are dancing with Jesus now.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Carrie Nolte; her husband of sixty two years, Weldon E. Buchhorn Sr.; son, Weldon E. Buchhorn Jr.; grandson, David Goehring; brothers, Clifton, Roy Sr. and Claude Nolte.
She is survived by her brother, James Nolte (Mila); sister, Jeanice Turner; her children, Michael (Dena) Buchhorn of Victoria, Arlen (Wanda) Buchhorn of Victoria, Darlene Goehring (Allan) of Mission Valley, Carolyn Conner (Gary) of Spout Spring, VA, Laurie (Jay) Metting of Cuero; daughter-in-law, Carol Day Buchhorn of Cuero; twenty-five grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Warren Buchhorn, Jeremy Buchhorn, Jordan Buchhorn, Joshua Buchhorn, Kenneth Buchhorn, Henry Buchhorn, Thomas Diehl and Timothy Diehl.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 10, 2024, 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Freund Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be Friday, October 11, 2024, 2:00 PM at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Cuero Cemetery.
