A. Charles "Charlie" Fischer passed away in Austin, Texas on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at the age of 75. Charlie is predeceased by his parents, A. Charles "Bob" and Esther Fischer, and his wife, Penelope B. Fischer.
Charlie is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Wendy L. Fischer; brothers David Fischer, Daniel Fischer and James Fischer; children Abby Zanarini (Jeff), Nancy Fischer (Eddie Byrd), Rachel Lefferdink (Chris) and Steve Thompson (Britt); and grandchildren Alison, Lauren and Dylan.
Charlie was born in Concrete, Texas in 1942 and grew up on a dairy farm near Cuero, Texas. He graduated in 1964 from Texas A&M University, where he earned his B.S. degree in Animal Science. While at Texas A&M, Charlie was the Commanding Officer of his military company and a Distinguished Military Graduate. He was commissioned as an Officer in the U.S. Army upon graduation.
In February of 1967, Charlie joined The Dow Chemical Company as an agricultural chemical sales representative. His career with Dow spanned 37 years across six U.S. states, Brazil and France. He retired in 2004 as the president and CEO of Dow AgroSciences.
Charlie enjoyed his retirement years and filled his time traveling, golfing, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. Charlie loved watching all sports and especially the Aggies.
Charlie's Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Smith Chapel at Riverbend Church – 4214 N. Capital of Texas Hwy., Austin, TX 78746. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Stevens Cemetery - Hwy. 183 N., Concrete, TX 77954, under the direction of Freund Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in honor of A. Charles Fischer to the Future Farmers of America.
