Clarence Ralph Arndt, age 93, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019. He was born December 13, 1925 in Cuero to the late Adolph and Wilhermina Kahlich Arndt. He was a third generation farmer /rancher of German descent in DeWitt Coiunty.
He married the love of his life, Alva Leubert, on November 23, 1947 in Lindenau. Clarence enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, working the land with his John Deere tractors, and time with his family.
He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he served on Church Council, taught Sunday school and Bible classes, and sang in the choir. He served on the Westhoff School Board and was a member of the Lindenau Rifle Club.
Clarence was named the Conservation Comeback Farmer by the DeWitt County Soil Conservation District in 1959 and was presented the Outstanding Soil Conservation Award in 1964. He was inducted as an Honorary Chapter Farmer by Cuero's FFA during the 1974-75 academic year. And, in 1982 the DeWitt County Soil and Water Conservation District named him its Outstanding Farmer/Rancher.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 71 years; daughter, Denise Afflerbach (W.A.); sons, Randall Arndt (Kathy Long) and Michael Arndt (Nancy); grandsons, Blake Afflerbach (Jamie) and Tyler Arndt (Joade); two great-grandchildren, Temperence and Reed Afflerbach; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Arndt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Elo Arndt and Wilburn Arndt; and sister, Lee Alice Borchardt.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be Sunday, March 3, 2019, 3 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lindenau with Pastor William Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Lindenau Community Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Blake Afflerbach, Tyler Arndt, Oscar Wolter Jr., Ronnie Wolter, David Arndt, and Douglas Leubert. Honorary pallbearers are Norby Buchhorn Sr. and Jerry Tietz.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Lindenau Community Cemetery, Lindenau Rifle Club, Hospice of South Texas, or donor's choice.
Clarence's family gives a special thanks to all those caring for him: Dr. M. Nezhad and Hospice of South Texas medical staff including Dr. Tyson Meyer, Dr. Whitehouse, and private sitters, Bri, Dru, and Anita.
