Obituary

Daniel H. Dentler, born July 6, 1927, to Peter C. and Marie (Rangnow) Dentler died on June 4, 2011, He had suffered a massive stroke on May 19. Prior to his death, he had lived at Whispering Oaks Nursing Facility since 2009.
Daniel graduated from Patti Welder (Victoria High) in 1944 and went on to play in the University of Texas band. After one semester, Dan joined the Army serving from 1945-47. During World War II he was stationed in Hawaii. After returning home, he met the love of his life, Joyce (Kaeding) Dentler. They were married for 53 years prior to her death in 2002. Dan spent most of his life working for Southern Pacific railroad as a car foreman. He enjoyed his work and was always working on one project or another in his workshop following his retirement from the railroad. He and his wife Joyce loved to travel. During their lifetimes, they visited all of the 50 states and various countries in the world, many as part of Joyce's tour group, "The Happy Excursion". Dan also enjoyed playing dominoes and dancing. He could twirl around the dance floor quicker than most and his excellent memory kept him enjoying the game of "42" for years.

Dan is survived by his sister, Mildred (Dentler) Metting, nieces Irene (Sammy) Brieden, Grace (Dwight) Binz, JoAnn (Maurice) Reitz, and Martha (Jim) Clark; nephews Ernest (Carla) Metting Jr. and Jay (Laurie) Metting, Roger Wieting and Paul Wieting.
In addition, he is survived by his sisters-in-laws Thresa Wieting and Florine (Harold) Lord along with many great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and numerous close friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, his niece Marie Garland, and great nephew Joey Brieden.

Services will be held on June 7, 2011, at St John's Lutheran Church in Meyersville at 10:30 AM with Reverend Eric Petty officiating. There will be a visitation for family and friends the evening before, June 6, 2011, from 6-7:30 PM at Freund Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers are Ernest Metting Jr., Jay Metting, Ryan Reitz, Dr. Koby Reitz, Dr. Daniel Binz, Sohn Brieden, and Shane Ressman. Honorary pallbearers are his god children Priscilla Dornburg, Ronny Dentler, Brenda Arndt and the rest of his great nieces and nephews.

Memorials can be made to St John's Lutheran Church in Meyersville or Crown Hospice.
