Obituary

Danny Wayne Strain, 71, of College Station passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.  He was born October 29, 1946 in Brownsville to the late Donal E. and Dottie J. Jones Strain.  Danny was a United States Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War.  He married the love of his life, Sharon Striedel, on June 11, 1966 in Cuero.  Danny was an outside technician for AT&T/Southwestern Bell and retired after many years of service.  He was a member of the VFW, the Masonic Lodge Cuero 409, and American Legion of Bryan.  Danny had a love for God, his country, and his family.  He was quick-witted, had a gift of rhyme, and had a way with words that could always brighten the spirits of family, friends, and even his caregivers.   He had a unique way of connecting with everyone he met and although people may not have remembered what he said or did, they always remembered how he made them feel.  Danny loved to fish, "heading down south" to hunt, and his Friday night trapshoots.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and watching his granddaughters compete in their activities.

Danny is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Strain; daughter, Sherie Dickson and husband, Bubba, of College Station; son, Darren Strain and wife, Lindsay, of College Station; sister, Donna Strain Berger of Cuero; grandchildren, Shelby Nicole Dickson of Longmont, CO, Jordan Marie Dickson of Houston, Hadyn Lyneé Strain of College Station, and Danielle "Dani" Leslie Strain of College Station.

A masonic service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 prior to visitation at Freund Funeral Home.  Visitation will follow from 5-7 p.m.  A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 10, 2018, 10 a.m., at Freund Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Brown officiating.  Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Mike Striedel, Mark Lane, Richard "Scooter" Striedel, Forrest Striedel, and D.J. Berger.
