David Ray 'Smitty' Smith, 60, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017. He was born June 13, 1957 in Cuero to the late Donald and Eva Janet 'Enette' Smith. David married the love of his life, Bea Smith, on October 1, 1982 in Cuero. He worked as a corrosion technician for Texas Eastern for 35 years where he retired in 2012. In his spare time he enjoyed guns, shooting, hunting, sitting on the back porch with a cold drink, riding in the pasture in the "Bad Boy Buggy" and telling stories.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Bea Smith; sons, Jeff Smith and wife, Carrie, and David Marshall Smith; daughter, Julie Gregg and husband, Hayden; and grandchildren, Hudson Smith, Barrett Smith, Teegan Gregg, and Taylor Gregg.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held Friday, August 4, 2017, 10 a.m., at Freund Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Cotman and Father Jasper Liggio officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Bill Braden, Glen Braden, Dutton Lane, Charles Medcalf, Paul Holcomb Jr., and Mike Frers. Honorary pallbearers include Butch Guerra, Art French, Paul Lucas, Paul Holcomb Sr., William Finney, and his Texas Eastern family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Bethany Baptist Church in Thomaston or organization of the donor's choice.
