David William Smolik, 58, lifetime resident of Cuero, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013. He was born March 13, 1955 in Karnes City, Texas to the late William B. and Mildred A. Kolodziej Smolik. He married his beloved wife, Camille Whitten Smolik on February 15, 1975. He was a loving father to his only son, Russell Smolik. He considered himself a jack-of-all-trades. He worked in commercial construction, was a State meat inspector at the age of 19 and spent many years auctioneering for local causes. For over 40 years, David worked in the meat business, first alongside his father and then as owner of Smolik's Quality Meats and BBQ. David loved the outdoors and spent many hours ranching, deer hunting and tending to his garden. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cuero.
He leaves behind his wife, Camille Whitten Smolik; son, William Russell Smolik (Amber) of Sugarland; brother, Michael Smolik (Gail) of Mathis; three sisters, Cynthia Smith (Michael) of Richmond, Kathleen Leske (Bob) of Cuero, and Tami Piemonte (Joe) of St. Petersburg, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, August 29, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Cuero with Brother Glen Robertson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (www.theaftd.org).
