On January 16, 2015, our Dad, David Sutherland, was called to a place of eternal rest. Born April 22, 1955, to R.H. "Sam" Sutherland and Lila (Stoeltje) Sutherland, David was a lifelong Corpus Christi resident and 1973 graduate of Richard King High School. David's passion for family will never be forgotten. Those who met him, even briefly, remembered a courageous person that handled his adverse health with a smile and a joke. He inspired more than he knew and encouraged those around him. Our time with him was a blessing to be treasured always.

In life, David enjoyed drag racing and all things Chevrolet. He loved making up silly songs and corny jokes, traits he passed along to his daughters (lucky us)!

David was preceded in death by his father, Royal Henry (Sam) Sutherland in 1997. He survived by his mama, Lila Sutherland, brother Joe Sutherland and his wife Pam, sister Tammye Duckworth and her husband Larry, daughters and sons in law, Katie & Brad Hoover and Samantha & Mark Tuley, grandchildren, Jacob Tuley, Joshua Tuley, Addyson Tuley, Robinson Hoover, and Alexander Hoover, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Our family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to those who cared for Dad and ultimately helped us enjoy him just a little longer. Dr. Geeta Reddy, you are an amazing doctor and even better confidant. Thank you for listening to Dad and always being there when he needed you. Your presence and opinion always calmed him like no other. To the staff and patients at Fresenius Southside, please know that you were his friends. He was so grateful to the team that dialyzed him for 19 years, three times a week! Lastly, to the ER and ICU staff at CC Medical Center-Bay Area, thank you for making our dark days a little brighter with your warmth, kindness, and compassion. Kalin, Robert, Bekah, Skylar, Scott, Laura, Patty, and Jennifer, your empathy was invaluable and is appreciated more than you'll ever know.

David's family will be receiving visitors on Monday, January 19 from 5:30 pm-8:30 pm at Seaside Funeral Home. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 20 at 2 pm.

On Wednesday morning at 9 am, a procession will depart Seaside in route to the Westhoff Cemetery, with a graveside service and burial at noon.

Pallbearers will be Jacob and Joshua Tuley (grandsons), Robert Sutherland (nephew), Ryan and Austin Sutherland (great nephews), Edwin Galbraith (great friend and drag racing buddy), and honorary pallbearer, Raiden Sutherland (great nephew).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dad's honor to The Healthwell Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.
