Obituary

Edieth Aileen Nagel, 88, of Cuero passed away Monday, December 4, 2017. She was born on December 19, 1928 to Herbert and Esther (Roessler) Zengerle in her parents' home in the Arneckeville community. She was baptized, confirmed and married at, and faithfully attended Zion Lutheran Church of Arneckeville her entire life. She married Albert Harlan Nagel on December 10, 1949 and they were blessed with four children, four grandsons, and five great-grandchildren. Edieth embraced being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She taught each of her children the importance of leading a loving, faithful, productive life and to always keep God first. Edieth is survived by her children, Mary (husband, Steve) Leida of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Robert Nagel of Arneckeville, Judy (husband, Bob) Hohne of Houston, and Patrick Nagel of Arneckeville; grandsons, Hans (wife, Sarah) Leida of Edina, Minnesota, Nathan (wife, Amy) of Clear Lake, Joshua and Matthew Hohne of Houston; great-grandchildren, Levi, Sam and Miles Leida of Edina, Logan and Olivia Nagel of Clear Lake; sister Marjorie Shellenbarger of Cuero; many nieces and nephews, and many friends. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years; her parents; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Elenora Nagel, Edwin and Pearl White Nagel, Hilbert and Bernice Nagel, Leon and Ruth Nagel, and Robert Shellenbarger; and daughter-in-law, Ann Nagel (wife of Robert). Edieth enjoyed her life as a homemaker and mother but also loved serving her church as Sunday School teacher and served many years on Church Council, WELCA, Altar Guild and the Zion Cemetery Board. She especially delighted in being part of the Quilting Group. She worked several years as an accountant at the DeWitt County Coop. She had a passion for genealogy and served as Secretary for the Sager Family Reunion for many years. She was also active in the Arneckeville Community Center. Visitation will be held Monday, December 11, 2017 from 5p.m. to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Service will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arneckeville. Interment will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Hans Leida, Nathan Nagel, Joshua Hohne, Matthew Hohne, Harold Hartmann and Gary Henneke. Honorary pallbearer will be Doyle Cruz. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church of Arneckeville, Zion Lutheran Cemetery Fund or a charity of your choice. Our family would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude for all of your kindness and prayers. Special thanks to Comfort Keepers (especially Judy Perry and Sheri Jennings), Alzcare, Dr. Reece and the staff at Cuero Hospital, and Hospice of South Texas.
