Edwin Maltony, 80, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2013. He was born October 28, 1932 in Joffe, Pennsylvania to the late Louis and Erma Maltony. Ed graduated from Union High School, Burgettstown, Penn., in 1950, and went to college at Waynesburg on a wrestling scholarship where he was selected NCAA All American Heavy Weight Wrestler. His college career was cut short when he joined the army during the Korean War and served as a military policeman at Fort Knox, Kentucky from 1953-1955. After military he returned to college and received his Bachelor's of Science in Education from North Texas State. He then met and married his wife Diana Meadows. He was a coach of all sports at Cuero High School 1958-1960. He stayed in the Cuero School district by substitute teaching for forty-four years, teaching Drivers Ed for thirty-five years, and has only missed one football game in the last forty-four years that was due to his daughter, Vickie, getting married. Ed jumped on the bandwagon with Rudy Evers who organized the first Booster Club at the Doll House to watch film and get the scout reports. He was instrumental in helping build the practice field, assemble the new stadium, construct a new track, and help with the new gymnasium. He was the first person to receive CISD Continuing Service Award. Ed is a humble servant who has given his time, talent and money to the kids of Cuero ISD- from money for lunches , rides to practice, counseling to keep them in college or just that plain old caring attitude that says I care.
He is survived by his wife, Diana Maltony; children, Vickie Arrell (Rocky) and David Maltony (Lisa); grandchildren, Eric Arrell, Lisa Budarf, Marlayna McKinley, Ryan McKinley, Tyler McKinley, Marlin Maltony (fiancée Leah Soefje)and Reed Maltony; great-grandchildren, Eli, Ean, and Eliza Arrell, Trey and Jackson Budarf; brother, Bob (Carol) Maltony, Ron Maltony, Rich (Lois) Maltony, and Tom Maltony; sister, Carol (Larry) Keating.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, JoAnn Spiotta.
A visitation will be held Thursday, August 8, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 9, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Bill Cotman officiating.
