Edwin "Sonny" Michalek, Sr., 83, of Cuero passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017. He was born August 9, 1933 in Nordheim to Rudolph and Minnie Watersdorf Michalek. He served in the United States Army as a Specialist 3rd class on the front lines in the Korean War. Edwin married Mary Louise Parr on February 1, 1957 in Cuero. He was a laborer for TexTan.

He is survived by his son, Edwin Lee Michalek, Jr. (Loraine) of Cuero; sisters, Bernice Hargrove and Helen Serece (Bill) of Cuero and Doris Buesing (Marvin) of Nordheim; brother, Leon Michalek (Dianna) of Giddings; grandchildren Ashley Henkes (Randy) and Jamie Michalek of Cuero; and great-grandchildren, Robert Henkes, Bryson Henkes and Bryer Henkes all of Cuero.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; brothers, Edmund Michalek, August Michalek and Frank Michalek and great-grandchildren Avery and Caden Henkes.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 9, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Freund Funeral Home with funeral services to begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Terry Brown officiating. Interment to follow at Nordheim Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Shawn Kline, Stacy Kline, Craig Dreier, Eddie Stephen, Alvin Ebrom and Glenn Michalek. Honorary pallbearers are Jamie Michalek, Bryson Henkes, Bryer Henkes, Robert Henkes and Randolph Henkes.
