Elida Lilly Cortez Gonzales passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at the age of 99.  She was born September 22, 1925 in Cuero to Jose and Ernestina Pena Cortez.  She married Salvador Gonzales on November 25, 1948 in Cuero.  She worked as a cook for Cuero Independent School District for eighteen years.  She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary at Cuero Hospital.  She was also a devoted member of The Good Shepherd Church and she loved to travel.

She is survived by her daughter, Hilda M. Nanez (John); her son, Edward R. Gonzales (Rosemary) and her sister, Dorothy Chaffee.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of fifty-nine years, Salvador.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024, 9:30 AM at The Good Shepherd Church with funeral services to begin at 10:30 AM with Rev. Adolf B. Cortinas Jr. officiating.  Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers include John Nanez, Rudy Castillo, Mark Gonzales, Raymond Perez, Michael Chaffee and Mario Olguin.

Honorary Pallbearers include Terry Chaffee Jr., Jake Gonzales and Sam Gonzales.

Memorial Contributions may be made to The Good Shepherd Church.
