Elizabeth Hartman Godard, 90, of Cuero, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2009 at Cuero Community Hospital. She was born February 15, 1919 in Cuero to the late Julius C. Hartman and Elizabeth Hoefner Hartman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, J. Carl (Jake) Hartman and George (Doc) Hartman, and by her husband of 60 years, C.R. Godard.
Elizabeth and C.R. were married on December 31, 1939 in Cuero, the first people to wed in the present sanctuary of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Kaye and Lane Dixon of Cuero and Sue and Dick Weddige of Lubbock. She has four grandchildren, Richard and Karl Weddige of Lubbock, John Weddige and wife Katy of Austin, and Sarah Weddige Parker and husband Lee of Brenham. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Emma, Konner, Klair and Kreg Weddige and Joshua Parker.
Visitation will be held at Freund Funeral Home on Sunday, October 11, 2009. There will be a private graveside service for family with Pastor Eckert officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 400 N. Esplanade, Cuero, Texas 77954, or to a charity of donor's choice.
