Eugene P. Goertz, 80, of Cuero passed away Thursday, February 11, 2010 in Victoria. He was born April 20, 1929 in Falls County to the late Albert and Mattie Witcher Goertz. He married Mary Ann Dreyer in 1975 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Cuero. Eugene served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1957 with his Bachelors degree in Agriculture and worked for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service for ten years and as a lab analyst for DuPont until he retired. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Alpha Zeta Fraternity.
He is survived by his loving wife; brothers, James Goertz of Pearland and Lewis Goertz of Temple; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rosemary Sheguit; and brother, Gerald Goertz.
Visitation will be Friday, February 12, 2010 from 6 to 7 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, February 13, 2010, 10 a.m., at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Greg Sheguit, Chris Rath, Brian Dippel, Bill Frederick, Kevin Goertz, Charles Goertz, Tom Lowers, Dennis Kolle, and Kurt Atkinson.
Honorary pallbearers: Jerry Dreyer, Matt Fox, and Tracy Fox.
