Obituary

Evelyn Rosalia Kloesel Barfield, 86, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010. She was born November 12, 1923 in Shiner to the late Frank J. and Rosa Schaefer Kloesel. Evelyn married her sweetheart, Arthur C. 'Bill' Barfield, on February 8, 1947 in Shiner. During their 60 years together, they were an inseparable couple enjoying fellowship with their many friends, never turning down an opportunity to go dancing, and during their later years enjoying the time they were able to travel together. Evelyn truly cherished the time she would spend with family on many gatherings and she spent her spare time gardening in her flower beds and tending to her plants which she truly enjoyed. She will be remembered by her family as a very strong woman, a great cook and a wonderful mother and grandmother.

She was the City Secretary and Office Manager for the City of Cuero for 43 years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America #347, Cuero American Legion Auxiliary, Cuero VFW Auxiliary, St. Michaels Catholic Church, and was an honorary member of St. Michael's Altar Society.

She is survived by her sons, Larry Barfield and wife, Sharon, of Houston and Gregory Barfield and wife, Laura, of Castroville; daughter, Sharon Janssen and husband, Dwight, of Bryan; sister, Anita Margaret Rother of Hallettsville; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur C. 'Bill' Barfield; and sister, Wilma Marie Sonntag.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 5, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home with the rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, February 6, 2010, 10 a.m., at St. Michaels Catholic Church with Father Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Lisa Barfield, Lane Barfield, Dustin Janssen, Collin Janssen, Kelsey Janssen, Garrett Barfield, Kevin Barfield, and Dylan Barfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michaels School Endowment Fund or Hospice of South Texas.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Louisa Rocha, Evelyn's devoted and loving caregiver, and to Hospice of South Texas for the love, care and compassion shown to Evelyn and her family.
