Obituary

Our cherished father and Pappoo (as the grandkids affectionately called him), died in his sleep at 87 years of age. He suffered from progressive dementia, but his happy disposition always shined through.

He led a full and satisfied life and was a hardworking, well-respected man who diligently cared for his family. He was the third child out of 12 children born to William Russell Ferry, Sr. and Margie Lee Redmon of San Antonio, TX, on July 24, 1933. In the 1950's Frankie (as he was known to all) lived most of his life in San Antonio and attended South San Antonio High School. After high school he joined the Navy and the Marines and after serving his term, he returned back home and married the love of his life, a beautiful and self-sacrificing woman, Nellie Mae. They were married for over 45 years when Nellie passed away. They raised a large family of 6 children, Timothy Eugene, Judy Ann, Melissa Ann, Frankie Eugene, Jr., William Michael and Kathy Marie. Life certainly was full of challenges for Frankie, but he never let the challenges overtake him, he was the "keel" of our family and we will always be grateful to him for that.

Frankie retired from City Public Service Board after 30 years of service. He was a smart man with multiple skills, but his primary skill was welding. At his retirement he was a supervisor in the welding shop and in building maintenance. He was an exemplary employee and always appreciated his job. Those he worked with fondly called him "Pancho". For the next 12 years, he drove a school bus for the Northside School District. He enjoyed interacting with the students and after raising 6 children, he did not back down from any challenge a bus load of kids could present. After Nellie's death, he decided to make a change and moved to Cuero, TX, to be near his youngest son and other nearby family members. He remained there until his death.

A big part of what made our father who he was in his adult life, was his appreciation and value of bible principles that he learned from his sister, Eddie Mae Rhinehart, in the 60's and 70's. He always enjoyed their intellectual, spiritual discussions and through the years built on his bible knowledge. He would frequently instill what he learned in his children, by discussions with them. In the mid 80's he progressed to baptism as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and he tried to the best of his ability to be an example of Christian conduct and he was an encouraging and knowledgeable person to be around. He firmly believed in the future earthly resurrection found in the bible at Job 14: 14 & 15 and Acts 24:15, where it speaks of a time in the near future when God's original purpose for mankind to live forever on a paradise earth will be fulfilled. Frankie held on tightly to that resurrection hope and would encourage us all to do the same.

The family would like to recognize daughter-in-law Anise Ferry (wife of William Ferry), for managing our father's care in the last several years as his dementia progressed, we are grateful to you! We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to Carol Armstrong, his care giver the last several years, for the kindness and concern that was added to the care provided, thank you!

A Memorial talk will be given this Saturday(2/20/21) at 2:00pm on Zoom. The family welcomes all who knew Frankie to attend and be encouraged. Please text 737-932-4044 for the Zoom invitation link to be sent to you. Thank you.
