Fred "Peter Rabbit" Franklin Jr., 79, of Cuero passed away Monday, September 9, 2013. He was born January 20, 1934 in Cheapside to the late Fred Sr. and Callie Lane Franklin. He married his beloved wife, Ora L. Slade in Cuero. Fred was a hard working man, who was self employed, in the carpenter business his whole life.

He is survived by his wife, Ora L. Franklin; daughters, Lisa Jo. Mayfield of Cuero, Shirley A. Houston of California, Colleen Thomas (Donald) of Victoria, and Brenda Thomas (Leonard) of Portland; Sons, Johnell Griffin (Barbara) of Austin and Kenneth Barnett of Cuero; Sisters, Callie M. Glover of Cuero and Margaret Prince of Edna; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Hodge Franklin and Ervin Franklin.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 8-10 a.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2013 at First Methodist Church in Cuero with Rev. Terry Glover officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Emmitt D. Glover, Johnell D. Griffin Jr., Kenneth Barnett, Sonny Griffin, Leonard R. Thomas, and George Franklin.

Honorary Pallbearers include Kenyatta Griffin, LaChristian Thomas, David Scott, Freddy Scott, and John Warfield.
