Geneva Ann Boysen Ley, of Victoria, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2016. She was born on July 30, 1936, to Edmund C. Boysen and Georgia J. Boysen in Westhoff, Texas. Geneva was raised in faith in the Lutheran church and was a devout child of God.
Geneva graduated from Cuero High School in 1954. In the late 1950's Geneva won the title of Miss Cuero, representing her small town well. She attended Victoria College. Geneva married Carroll Ley, of Cuero, in 1956.
In her early life Geneva worked at the Dewitt County Electrical Co-Op and the Bohman Clinic. Geneva served as the Executive Secretary to the CEO at Victoria Machine Works Industries (WVM) where she earned a reputation within the company for dedication, service and excellence. She retired from VMW in the late 1990's. After retirement, Geneva fulfilled a lifelong dream and moved to Rockport where, never one to let grass grow under her feet, she continued working at the Rockport General Store and Key Allegro Real Estate. Up until her death she volunteered helping with bookkeeping at First English Lutheran Church in Victoria.
Geneva had a zest for knowledge that served her well. During her time at VMW the computer age came online and she taught herself the system backwards and forwards – when anyone had a problem, they came to her for assistance. Later in life, she purchased a laptop and taught herself how to use the internet, learning and collecting vast amounts of information about her favorite hobby, gardening. Geneva loved to carefully select and nurture plants, turning the backyard into a beautiful garden oasis. Geneva also loved to bowl, bowling in a league for many years and competing several times at the Women's Bowling Association Championship Tournament.
Geneva had a way with people, always able to see directly into their hearts. She made fast friends and formed lifelong bonds with many who already miss her dearly. Family and friends were everything to her. The sparkle in her eye and the love in her voice made her "I love yous" more treasured than most. She was always quick to laughter with a sharp wit that kept everyone around her in stitches. She could carry a joke longer than most – even continuing to tell her daughter she was purchased from gypsies long into her life!
The beach always had a piece of her heart; Geneva took her daughter and grand-daughter on vacation in Rockport for the month of July for nearly a decade before she finally retired there. Never one to get her hair wet, she loved combing the beach for beautiful shells and watching the waves roll in. Life found her back in Victoria after several years, where she was overjoyed to be near her immediate family again and share in the birth and daily lives of her three great-grandchildren. At Nana's house anything went and there were always new adventures to be had.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents and adopted grandson Blaine Sullivan.
She is survived by her brother, Luther (wife Lunette) Boysen of Houston; sister, Patricia Hayes (husband Arnold) of Kingsville; daughter Karen Webb of Victoria; grand-daughter Alyssa Tinsley (husband Klaus) of Nursery; and great-grandchildren Thomas, Kate, and Jane Tinsley of Nursery; niece Heather Boysen of San Jose, California; niece Dorinda (husband Shan) Skipper of Tivoli; nephew Ian Boysen (wife Nancy) of San Antonio; niece Leslie Sparck (husband, Darwin) of Seguin; niece Stephanie Rentz (husband Kirk) of Boerne; and nephew Shane (wife, Teri) Hayes of Helotes. Geneva also leaves behind many great-nieces and nephews, as well as great-great nieces and nephews whom she loved so very much. Geneva also leaves behind a beloved family of her heart in son, Alex Sullivan (wife Debbie) of Victoria and their children Clayton Sullivan and Chelsea McCallister.
Family will receive visitors at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Cuero, on Monday, February 22, 2016, at 1:00 p.m., with Funeral services beginning at 2:00 p.m., with the Reverend Jeff Thompson officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Hillside Cemetery.
