Cuero-Gertie Mae Gardner, 83, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2008. She was born June 2, 1925 in Smithville, Texas to the late Jeanett Pendergrass and Sam Taylor. Mrs. Gardner was the last of the chartered members of the Quinn Chapel Independents Methodist Church. She was a well known lady throughout the community for her dedicated love and services.
She is survived by her husband, Zeno Gardner; sister, Johnny Hughes of Ft. Worth; godson, Edward Bowles and family; brother-in-law, J.D. Gardner and wife of California; sister-in-laws, Thelma Deary of Houston, Martha Armstrong of San Antonio, Zella Mae Thompson of Galveston; granddaughter, Zuleika Lopez and children of Sweeny, Texas; a host of nieces and nephews, grandchildren and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters, and husbands, Rev. E.A. Thomas, Robert Kuykenall, and Elmo George.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 16, 2008 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be held Monday, November 17, 2008, 2:00 p.m. at Quinn Chapel on Threlkeld Street in Cuero with Rev. Lester Adams and Pastor and Rev. Samuel Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
A special thanks to the Yoakum Hospice program with the American Cancer Society. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Gardner requested memorials be sent to the American Red Cross or American Cancer Society.
