Obituary

Gladys M. Pattillo, 90 of Reeds Spring, MO died Friday, November 02, 2012 in Mercy Hospital, Springfield. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 7, 2012 in the Kissee-Schofield-Eakins Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Larry Kackley officiating. Burial will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 15th in the Cuero Cemetery, Cuero, Texas.

Gladys Margaret Pattillo was born Tuesday, April 25, 1922 in Moulton, TX to Charles and Mary (Grametbour) Kurtz. She attended school in Alpha, MN. After school she met Virgil Carpenter in Jackson, MN. They were married in 1939. Due to his work they lived in MN, AZ and AR. She was a homemaker and worked part time as a phone operator and a short time in a dairy store. Then they moved to Texas in 1963. They both attended Barber school in Harlington, TX. They both became barbers and owned the AC Barber Shop in Cuero, TX. They operated the shop for fifteen years when they retired. Virgil died in 1987. She met G. D. Pattillo and were married in 1988. Together they ran a small farm on the edge of town. G.D died in 2009 and Gladys moved to Protem, MO to be near her son.

Gladys had varied interests. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. She was also active in the community by volunteering her time in the Camel House Food Kitchen in Cuero and the United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, animals and painting. She was very playful and was at home in a man's world but was very feminine. She was very athletic, outgoing and cheerful and spent a lot of time with her son.

She is survived by one son, Ray Carpenter and wife, Carol of Protem, MO; three brothers, Allen Kurtz of Smithville, TX, Chunky Levik and wife, Rose of Buffalo Center, IA, Charlie Kurtz, Jr. of Shiner, TX; four grandchildren, Shawn Carpenter, Kimberly Johnson, Wendy Perry and Bethany Carroz and ten great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Virgil Carpenter and G. D. Pattillo; four brothers and two sisters.

Memorials in memory of Gladys Pattillo may be made to the American Heart Association.
