Dr. Harold Rutledge High, 85, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010 in Victoria. He was born May 20, 1924 in Canton to the late Bonnie Dillard and Lilla Quinlen High. After serving in the United States Army Air Force during World War II, Dr. High attended the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston and began his career as a physician in 1954. While attending medical school he married Paula Jane Grubb on December 7, 1947 in Canton and they made Cuero their home in 1955.
Dr. High was a member of the American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, Texas Academy of Family Physicians, DeWitt Medical Foundation, Inter-County Clinical Society, DeWitt-Lavaca Medical Society, Cuero Industrial Foundation, the Rural Community Health System, and a CISD School Board Trustee and past president. He was also a lifetime member of First Baptist Church, Cuero, a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1943, and received the Texas Family Practice Physician of the Year award in 1996.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years; daughter, Karon High; son, Harold R. 'Ace' High II and wife, Karen; granddaughter, Renice High Dozier and husband, Nelson; and grandson, H. Rutledge High III.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held Sunday, March 28, 2010, 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church, Cuero with Dr. Glenn Robertson officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include Rutledge High, Nelson Dozier, Doug Sethness, Herb Lancaster, Dr. Mike McLeod, and Kennon Cantley.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Cuero or the DeWitt Medical Foundation.
