Irene Krause Hahn, 87, of Westhoff passed away Sunday, September 9, 2012. She was born on November 20, 1924, in Westhoff, Texas, to the late W.F. (Bill) and Olga Krause. She was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Westhoff. She graduated from Cuero High School and Southwest Texas State Teacher College with a Master's Degree in Education. Education was her prime goal for all her family. Irene was an educator for 62 years beginning her career teaching in a one-room school house to being among the first women superintendents in Texas. She taught most of her career at Cuero High School and Westhoff School.
She is survived by daughters Linda Miller of Cuero and Peggy Bullard of Crandall; her sister Burnice Nolte and husband Roy of Westhoff; grandchildren Richard Miller, Billy Miller and wife Erika, Shannon Barnett and husband Brian, and Kimberly Woods and husband Monty; great-grandchildren William, Amber, Ashleigh, and Renae Miller; Brennan, Ryan and Britt Barnett; and Emily Woods. Caregivers: Oralia Maldonado, Helen Alvarez, and Nicki Tobar.
She was preceded in death by parents and husband, Robert Hahn; sister Vernell Logeman; brother Elmo Krause; sons-in-law Rod Jones and Billy Miller.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 13, 2012, from 6-8 pm, at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held Friday, September 14, 2012, at 10 am at St. John Lutheran Church in Westhoff with Pastor William Hill and Father Eric Fenton officiating. Interment will follow at Westhoff Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Charles Hahn, Jimmy Hahn, Rodney Nolte, Roy Nolte, Jr., Bob Thaxton, Paul Hahn, Daniel Filip, and Larry Balusek.
Honorary pallbearers include grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
