Obituary

Jack Michael Wheat of Cuero passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013. He was born December 15, 1937 in Nixon to the late Jack and Florine Elder Wheat.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sue; children, John Wheat of Chicago, Illinois, Bradley Wheat and wife, Michella, of San Antonio, Terry Gray and husband, Ron, of Helotes, Michael Wheat and wife, Rhonda, of Perryton; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Nathan Wheat and wife, Dixie, of Nixon.

Mike was a counselor at Cuero High School for 35 years. In addition, he was past president of Cuero Lions Club and Cuero Gun Club. He also served as a member of the Cuero Hospital Board for 27 years, as well as past president. He served in a variety of other organizations to include: DeWitt County Historical Commission, Cuero Library Board, Cuero Booster Club, and was a member and honorary director of the C.A.M.A.L. House Board. Mike and Sue were honored as Cuero Citizens of the Year in 1995.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 5, 2013 from 5 to 7 pm at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 6, 2013, 2:00 p.m., at Freund Funeral Home. Interment will be Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Mountain Home Cemetery in Hunt, Texas.
