James ("Jim") Kerr Crain II, 94, of Cuero passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024. He was born March 5, 1929 in Cuero to the late Newton M. and Beryl Rathbone Crain. Jim attended St. Michael's Catholic School and after graduating from Cuero High School, he continued his education at The University of Texas, where he received his Law Degree. Jim married Shirley Stanchos, on August 12, 1961 in Victoria and they began their life together in Cuero. Jim went into the practice of law with his father in 1953 at Crain & Crain Law Firm (currently Crain & Sheppard Law Firm), where he practiced law for over 60 years.

He was an active member in the Cuero community. Jim was a former Dewitt County Attorney, a founding member of the Cuero Little League, member of the Cuero Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, the Cuero Industrial Foundation, as well as numerous other organizations.

Jim had a deep love for his catholic faith, family, baseball, the Longhorns, and his sweets. He always enjoyed a good debate, a lively party, and listening to the Tommy Dorsey Band. His life can be summed up through Frank Sinatra's song lyric, "I did it my way."

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley R. Crain; sons, James K. Crain III, and wife Amy, Patrick G. Crain, and Christopher M. Crain and wife, Jill; granddaughters, Katie Crain and Annie Crain; and grandsons, Mitchell Crain, Connor Crain, Harrison Crain, and Landon Crain.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Newton M. Crain, Jr. and William R. Crain.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 4 to 6 pm with a rosary recited at 5:30 pm at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be Monday, January 22, 2024, 10 am, at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Jacob Mendoza officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Mitchell Crain, Connor Crain, Harrison Crain, Landon Crain, Billy Crain, Robert Crain, and Craig Stuart.
