James Koenig, 63, of Cuero passed away Saturday, November 26, 2011. He was born January 12, 1948 in Cuero to the late Roosevelt John and Clara Geffert Koenig. James graduated Yorktown High School in 1966. He was president of Farm Bureau, vice-president of Texas Young Framers, president of Cuero Young Farmers, served on the Stockshow board of directors for 32 years, served on the Cuero Booster Club board, and served as state vice-president and Coastal Bend president of Texas Pork Producers. James worked for Alcoa for 30 years, helped with 4H and FFA programs, was a member of the Animal Health Commission, and was a member of DeWitt County Producers.
He is survived by his daughters, Kaysi Renee Koenig and Karli Nicole Koenig; sisters, Diana Kay Alles, Mary E. Schmidt, Gail Morton, and Peggy Mayer, all of Cuero, Carolyn Adcock of San Antonio, JoAnn Buchanan of Westhoff, and Eileen Williams of Canyon Lake; brothers, Curtis Koenig of Cuero and Charles Koenig of La Vernia; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Allen Dale Koenig; and brothers-in-law, Keith Schmidt and Rodney Alles.
Visitation will be Monday, November 28, 2011 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2011, 2:00 p.m., at St. Marks Lutheran Church with Pastor Karl Biermann, Pastor Ray Payne, and Vicar Kristen Ulmanis officiating. Interment will follow at Taylor-Bennett Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Patrick Lange, Kennon Koenig, Collin Koenig, Trey Morton, Jarred Koenig, Derrick Buchanan, Mark Vavrusa, and Robert Nagel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Friar Ag Center Building Fund, Young Farmers Scholarship Fund or Donor's Choice.
