Cuero, James F. Newsom, 77, of Palacios passed away Sunday, August 9, 2009. He was born November 27, 1931 in Pearsall to the late Willis and Mabel Sadler Newsom. He served in the United States Army as a military policeman in the Korean War. He was also a businessman, commercial fisherman and rancher.

James is survived by his daughters, Rachel Sheppard and husband Henry of Victoria and Becky Newsom and husband Scott Madison of Hoboken, New Jersey; son, Wade Newsom and wife Shelley of Palacios; and grandchildren, Henry Justin Sheppard and Randall Wade Newsom.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna Faye Barfield Newsom; and grandson, Willis Breeden Sheppard.

Visitation will be Monday, August 10, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2009, 11 a.m., at Freund Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Andy Blair officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Hillside Cemetery.
