Obituary

The world lost an angel Friday, December 13th, Jeanette Marie Bluntzer.

Jeanette was born in Cuero, Texas on April 1, 1931 to mother Leona Arnold Bitterly and father, Robert John Bitterly. She had an older brother John Robert (deceased) and younger brother Milton Arnold (deceased), and is survived by her sister Sandra Eugenia.

She is also survived by her three children: Paul Anthony Bluntzer (Mary Lee), Carolyn Marie Hughes (John) and Linda Jean Cano (Carlos), as well as nine grandchildren, Nicole Marie Feldman (Robert), Jared Anthony Bluntzer (Laurel), Laura LeAnne Griffiths (Darrin), Tessa Michelle Somich (Nick), Christopher Hughes, Cory Hughes, Melanie Hughes, Travis Michael Cano and Lisa Marie Reyna (Eric), and ten great-grandchildren, Emily Renee Feldman, Olivia Suzanne Feldman, John Douglas Feldman, Sarah Anne Feldman, Penelope Sarah Bluntzer, Leia Jane Bluntzer, Ari Paul Bluntzer, Cameron Jon Griffiths, Sawyer Grace Somich and Alexander Finn Reyna - all who were her pride and joy and bright lights of her life.

Jeanette married Arthur Louis Bluntzer (who passed away on July 14, 2024) on August 6, 1952, embarking on a journey that would define her life with love and devotion. Throughout her long and fruitful years, she poured her heart into her faith, family, and a multitude of passions. A dedicated member of her Church community, Jeanette worked tirelessly as part of the Altar Society, taught CCD classes, was a Eucharist Minister and was honored with the Francis J. Furey medal on December 17, 1972, in recognition of her unwavering service.

Her commitment extended beyond the Church; she played an instrumental role in Community Outreach in Goliad, helping local families in need. Sewing was not just a hobby for Jeanette; it was a manifestation of her love, with her children and grandchildren being wrapped in lovingly stitched outfits and blankets. An avid embroiderer and member of the Quilting Club, she devoted countless hours to crafting beautiful quilts and embroidering exquisite pillowcases and dish towels, each piece a testament to her creativity and care.

In the kitchen, Jeanette prepared hearty, home-cooked meals that brought joy to her loved ones. She is fondly remembered for her delicious tapioca pudding and delightful green grape pie, which became family favorites over the years.

Jeanette's passion for gardening was unparalleled, her green thumb nurturing vibrant plants, flowers, and a thriving vegetable garden. Even in her final days, when it was difficult for her to form words, she would tell us when and how often to water the plants in her apartment to keep them thriving.

Jeanette leaves a legacy of love that continues to thrive in our hearts, and she will be sorely missed.

Her family would like to thank her dedicated caregivers in the final months of her life, Amy Rooks, Rebekah Rubio, and her granddaughter, Laura Griffiths, who supported her, loved her and were enriched by taking care of one of the most caring, selfless, witty, worldly woman that they had the blessing to have had in their lives.
