Jo Bell Smith, 90, of Needville, formerly of Cuero passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018. She was born November 14, 1928 in McKinney to the late Will and Julia Douglass Chapman. She married the late Robert Gordon Smith on September 28, 1946 in Dallas. Jo Bell was a Librarian at John C. French Elementary for 25 years as well as a member of the Cuero Classroom Teachers Association, The Texas Library Association, The Texas Teachers Association and Beta Sigma Phi. She was also a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 45 years.
Jo Bell is survived by her daughter, Jana Love of Houston; son, David (Debra) Smith of Cuero; niece, Kathlaw Flournoy; nephews, George and Bill Williams; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years; her parents; sisters, Willie H. Williams and Sarah M. Travillion; brothers, Jess, Melvin and Jack Chapman; and her nephew, Carl Travillion.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 6, 2018, 10 a.m., at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 6, 2018, 11:00 a.m., at Freund Funeral Home with Dr. Glenn Robertson officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Pallbearers include: David Smith, Colby Smith, Mason Price, Tori Nelson, Antonio Nelson, and Tori Nelson, Jr.
Memorial Contributions may be made to First Baptist Church.
