Joe Alvarez, 71, of Cuero passed away Monday, June 4, 2012. He was born April 16, 1941 in Yoakum to the late Pedro Gonzales and Lupe Perez Alvarez. He married Mary G. Alvarez on May 8, 1992. Joe was a United States veteran serving in the United States Army.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary G. Alvarez; daughters, Jennifer A. Salinas and husband, James, and Yvonne Alvarez; sons, Edward Alvarez, Andrew Alvarez, Martin Alvarez, John Alvarez, and Bobby Alvarez; sisters, Esther Jiminez, Rachel Umanzor, Rose Charles, Mary De La Vega, and Lisa Ramirez; brothers, Daniel Alvarez, John Alvarez, and Frank Alvarez; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Alvarez; and brothers, Carlos Alvarez, Eli Alvarez, and Fidel Alvarez.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 8, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday, June 9, 2012, 10 a.m., at Freund Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robert Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
