CUERO - Joe Serna Jr., 81, of Cuero, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008. He was born Sept. 12, 1927, in Cuero, to Joe Serna Sr. and Bertha Anzualda. He married Nora Serna (Garibay-Serna) on Aug. 27, 1951, in Dewitt County.
He was retired from McAllen Bridge Co. for 35 years plus as a road/bridge construction supervisor. He then worked at Smolik's Meat Market and Wal-Mart, both in Cuero. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Cuero as a Guadalupano.
He is survived by his daughter, Rose Ann Serna of New Braunfels; sisters, Dora Cessor and Tillie Trevino, both of Cuero; brothers, Porfirio Serna of Flatonia and Richard Serna of Pasedena; grandchild, Travis Wayne Serna of Cuero; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nora Serna; son, Isaias Serna; and brother, Marvin Serna.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Cuero with Father Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero.
Pallbearers are Travis Serna, David Trevino, Nick Trevino, Trent Rickman, Bobby Guenther, and Grover Cessor.
