Obituary

Joe Edwin Schwab, Jr., 89, of Victoria, passed away to his heavenly home on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. He was born February 1, 1927 in Yoakum to Joe and Katherine Rush Schwab. Joe is survived by his loving wife, June Nell Schwab; sons, James Schwab and wife, Michaelene, Joe Schwab III and Norma. He also leaves behind grandchildren Michael Schwab and Carmen Schwab and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Karl and Shelton Schwab.

Joe and June Schwab were married on July 27, 1947. They met on the school bus that took them both to Cuero High School. Joe joined the Navy in 1945 and served two years. He then completed a radio course at Port Arthur College in 1947 and worked at KMAC radio station as a radio engineer. He taught radio and TV theory at Texas College of Technology for two years and then owned a TV repair shop in San Antonio for two years. For the next ten years he worked in Civil Service at Ft. Sam Houston Repair Depot. After working for E.I. DuPont Company in Victoria for sixteen years, he retired.

Joe served on the Yorktown School Board for five years and was a church officer for Presbyterian churches in San Antonio and Yorktown for ten years. He retired from the Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department after twenty-five years of service. He has been a member of the American Legion for 61 years. Both Joe and June were charter members of the Christian Motorcycle Association. They rode motorcycles from 1968 to 1988 and they both loved to bowl and played in several different leagues. Joe and June enjoyed having a retirement home at Circle W Ranch. Joe helped on many projects there and enjoyed his time visiting and meeting people.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 26, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Freund Funeral Home with Pastor Andrew Lemlyn officiating. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens.
