John Davis Bauer, Sr., 94, of Cuero passed away Monday, February 25, 2019. He was born July 6, 1924 in Cuero to the late Lawrence A. and Ruby Coward Bauer. He was a US Navy veteran serving in World War II.  John D. married the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Guinn, July 31, 1948 in Hallettsville. John D. retired after spending over 55 years in the produce business. He loved going to Coushatta to gamble, working in his yard and gardening where he tended to his flowers and vegetables.

He is survived by his sons, John Davis Bauer, Jr. (Virginia) and Chuck Alan Bauer (Sharon); grandchildren, John Davis Bauer III (Jennifer), Caleb Mitchell Bauer (Adriane), Chandra Carbonara (Will), Kahlei Villarreal (Gabe), Hayden Matejek and Crayton Matejek; 7 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean Bauer; parents; sister, Elbie Gaida; and brothers Bill Bauer, Garlan Bauer and Kenneth Bauer.

Services will be held Thursday, February 28, 2019, 1 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home with Pastor Jeb Owen officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers are John Bauer, Caleb Bauer, Hayden Matejek, Crayton Matejek, Bubba Brier, Matthew Brier and Will Carbonara. Honorary pallbearers are Kahlei Villarreal, Jack Bauer, William Carbonara, Arissa Carbonara, Cannon Carbonara, Callan Carbonara, Clara Bauer, Henry Bauer and Anna Bauer.

The family would like to give a special thanks to: Detar Rehab Staff, ER Staff at Hermann Memorial and the Staff at Hospice of South Texas - Dornburg Center of Compassion.
