John Oliver Coppedge, 92, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019. He was born January 30, 1927 in Concrete to the late John Lawrence and Myrtle Coppedge. John Coppedge married the late Mary Lou Cobb on May 25,1950 in Cuero. John enjoyed serving the public at his service station where he never met a stranger. He loved working in his yard and cutting firewood for his roaring fires in the winter. He loved supporting his grandchildren and great grandchildren in all of their many activities. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church as a deacon, Sunday school director and member of the choir. He served our country in the Army in World War II, Korea and National Guard for 16 years.
He is survived by his children, Susan Goebel and husband, Johnny, of Cuero, Ricky Coppedge of Cuero, Randy Coppedge of Austin, and Karen Bade and husband, Augie, of Cuero; grandchildren, Kerry Goebel and wife, Debbie, Jennifer Parr and husband, Jamie, Kimberly Starkey and husband, Chad, and Amanda Rodriguez and husband, Mikey; Numerous great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Cobb.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Lou; his parents; brothers, Bud, Dick and Coot Coppedge; and sister, Mitchie Byrd.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be Friday, March 22, 2019, 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church with Dr. Glenn Robertson officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kerry Goebel, Jamie Parr, Chad Starkey, Mikey Rodriguez, Robert Pinon and Scott Porter. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Cobb, Brad Holder and Donnie Parr.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church.
