John E. Dukes, 81, of Cuero passed away Friday, June 27, 2014. He was born April 12, 1933, in Reevesville, SC to the late John Norman Dukes "Jack" and Eliza Dave Heaton.

John served seven years in the United States Air Force and worked many years in retail management. He was a Catholic and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He was a loving, husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Joy Dukes; son, Wesley Dukes (Sandy) of Cuero; daughter, Shannon McHorse (Larry) of Cuero; sister, Ann Robinson (Don) of Aiken, SC; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dave Dukes, Preston Dukes, and Winston Dukes; sisters; Eugena Dukes, Alma Dukes, and Julia Dukes; and late wife, Lornette Rabke Dukes.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home.  A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, June 30, 2014, 2 p.m., at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Cuero with Father Kirby Hlavaty officiating.  Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Larry McHorse, Robert McCurry, Dustin Blinka, Zach Zook, Chance Dukes, and J.W. Dukes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Catholic School.
