Jose DeLeon Ortiz Sr., 66, of Cuero, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009 at Cuero Community Hospital. He was born April 3, 1943, in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, to the late Antonio Ortiz and Margarita Ortiz-Del Toro.
He worked for many years at Texas Concrete in Victoria. He was a self-employed mechanic as Joe's Transmission. He was known to many by Toro, Feo, and Toyato. He married Mary G. Bustos on May 18, 1974 in Cuero. They were blessed with two children.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Bustos-Ortiz; daughter, Margarita Ortiz of Cuero; son, Jose DeLeon Ortiz Jr. of Richmond; sister, Juana Ortiz of Mexico; brothers, Rafael Ortiz, Luis Ortiz, and Antonio Ortiz, all of Mexico; and grandson, Aaron Villarreal of Cuero.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Miguel; and brother, Leon.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m., at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ramsey Roldan, Nathan Berger, Eddie Olguin, Marcus Perez, and David Licon.
