Joyce Ann Monroe Screws, 64, was born on September 8, 1953 in Opelousas, Louisiana to the late Henry and Olevia Lewis Monroe. She was the youngest of 7 children. Joyce began her education in the Opelousas School District and graduated with the class of 1973. She continued her education at Victoria College, School of Nursing. Upon graduating, she worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse for over 30 years at Detar Hospital, Cuero Hospital, Cuero ISD School District, and various other Nursing & Rehabilitation facilities. Joyce accepted Christ in 1965. She met the love of her life, Ulysses Screws Jr., in 1977 and they married on December 2, 1978. They worked tirelessly together for their family and their local church ministry. Through this union were born 3 beautiful children. Faithful in her walk with the Lord, she also remained a devoted member of New Testament Holiness Church (NTHC) in Cuero, TX under the leadership of Pastor Calvis Brooks until present day. She used her talents and served as a keyboardist and choir member. Joyce was also very active in the local community and founded the New Generation Kids Production which provided theatre arts and musical programs to the local youth. On Sunday, September 10th at 3:46 PM, Joyce departed this life peacefully. Her 3 children sang praise and worship songs at her bedside while her Husband escorted her into the Presence of Jesus. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ninaye Marie Body and Erma Rose Monroe; and brothers, Gene Monroe, Henry Monroe Jr., and Glen David Monroe, and Hosea Monroe. Joyce leaves to cherish her children, Marco Dewayne Screws (Sade) of Virginia Beach, VA, Krystle LeAnn (Jeremiah) Tumlinson of Midland, TX, and Brittnye Dione Screws of San Antonio, TX. She also leaves 5 grandchildren, Caleb Terell Screws, Laila Alani Screws, Samaria Olevia Screws, Saniyah Savannah Screws, and Quinn Ivy Tumlinson. As well as God-Daughter, Courtney Alexandria VanMeter and beloved friend, Aileen VanMeter. As well as a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be Friday, September 15, 2017 at New Testament Holiness Church at 2 p.m. with Pastor Calvis Brooks officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
