Obituary

Cuero, Julia Fay Calhoun, 92, of Cuero, passed away Friday, February 6, 2009 in Victoria. She was born April 3, 1916 in Stratton, Texas to the late John Wesley and Delilah Irene Matthew Alexander. She was a Cuero native, a postmaster in Thomaston for twenty years and a member of the American Legion Auxillary and First Presbyterian Church, Cuero. She married Marion 'Red' B. Calhoun on October 30, 1937 in Cuero.

She is survived by her son, Marion A 'Sporty' Calhoun and daughter-in-law, Marjorie of Victoria; grandchildren, Donna D'ann (Gordon) Frutiger of Katy, Renee (Travis) Basinger of Victoria, Toya (Melvin) Langenberg of Austin, and Hallie (Yvonne) Calhoun of Hale, Michigan; ten great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 50 years; daughter, Mary Ann Caraway and son-in-law, Don; sisters, Roxie Cage and Corinne Carroll; and brothers, W.B. 'Alex' Alexander and J.H. 'Fritz' Alexander.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 8, 2009 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. A service will be held Monday, February 9, 2009, 2 p.m., at Freund Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kathryn Morton officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero.

Pallbearers: Gordon Frutiger, Hallie Calhoun, Travis Basinger, Melvin Langenberg, John Carroll and Daniel Miller.

Honorary pallbearers: Blayde Carroll, Ken Adams, Pat Lee and Jeff Alexander.
