Leon Gustav Nagel, 90, of Cuero passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012. He was born August 10, 1921 in Arneckeville to the late Henry A. and Olga Sager Nagel. Leon was baptized on September 11, 1921 and confirmed April 5, 1936. He was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army. He married Ruth Wendel on December 21, 1941 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Meyersville. Leon worked in the field for Charles Martin and Company and REA of Cuero, and was a clerk at ASCS of Cuero until retirement.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Ruth Nagel; sons, Glen Nagel and wife, Glenda, of Dallas, Rodney Nagel and wife, Norma, of Austin, and Dennis Nagel and wife, Kay, of Cuero; brother, Harlan Nagel and wife, Edeith, of Cuero; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Eleanora Nagel; and brothers, Hilbert Nagel and Edwin Nagel.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 21, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2012, 2 p.m., at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor John Boor officiating. Interment will follow at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.
Pallbearers include his grandsons, Kelly Nagel, Mike Nagel, Jeff Nagel, Trent Chambers, Chad Reed, and Todd Reed.
