Leslie "Bruce" Battles, 77, of Hammond, La., passed away Friday, May 13, 2011. He was born May 27, 1933, in Cuero, to the late Leslie and Dorothy Battles. He was a maintenance worker.
He is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Mumphord of Victoria and Ms. Dorothy McHellen; sons, Leslie V. Battles of Columbia, Ga. and Edward Roy Battles of El Paso; sisters, Mrs. Josephine Taylor and Ms. Nancy Battles, both of Victoria, and Mrs. Tommie Owens of San Antonio; brothers, Henry Battles of Cuero, John Battles of Victoria, and William Battles of Wharton; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Battles; and brothers, Edmond J. Battles and Samuel Battles.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., at Freund Funeral Chapel in Cuero, the Rev. Fred Hobbs officiating. Interment will be at Lockhart Community Cemetery in Cuero.
Pallbearers will be Eric Mooney, Keith Mooney, John Owens, Jesse Mathis, Edward Battles, and Michael Warren.
Honorary pallbearers are his grandson and nephews.
